We are seeking a Planner - Generalist (Manufacturing Technical Writer) to join our team in Canoga Park, CA.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

  • Develop, input and maintain work instructions for  documents in support of:
  • Machined parts fabrication and related tooling;
  • Mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic/thermal protective material assembly, structural assembly, systems installation and related tooling;
  • Fabrication, assembly, and/or installation of electrical and electronic assemblies and related tooling and testing.
  • Facilitate in-process changes to work instructions per authorizing documents.
  • Plan standard formats for internal fabrication processes, including but not limited to: assembly operations, machining, deburring, cleaning, plating, brazing, heat treat, etching, painting, welding, lubrication, insulation, touch-up anodizing and chemical-film, electrical discharge machining, as well as for the control and use of precious metals and hazardous materials.
  • Plan work instructions for test operations and associated safety requirements, including tooling procedures, pressure/leak/flow test operations, as well as operations involving use of cryogenic liquids.
  • Plan work instructions for inspection processes, including dye penetrant, ultrasonic, eddy current, radiographic/radioscopic, precision measurement, and in-process manufacturing inspection.
  • Incorporate protection and packaging methods into the work instructions to assure hardware integrity and damage prevention throughout the fabrication cycle, including final storage and/or shipment of all hardware components and assemblies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Possess proficiency in the use of computers and a variety of software programs to create planning documents, work instructions and other standard instruction documents (inputting and applying text to provide instructional content, and computer generated graphics, videos and photos to provide visual content.
  • Read and interpret information from engineering documents, drawings, blueprints, sketches, specifications, charts and graphs, as well as disposition instructions, to develop and prepare new and revised planning for all related manufacturing and assembly operations and processes.
  • Apply knowledge of machining theory, mechanical systems and assembly, and electrical systems and assembly for preparation of planning documents in support of large and small component machining, factory support processes, mechanical and electrical assemblies and related tooling.
  • Review and verify planning documents for adequacy and accuracy for compliance to procedural requirements.
  • Identify errors and omissions and advise others of necessary corrective action.
  • Furnish planning guide and format instructions to provide guidance through analysis and interpretation of policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate plans, instructions and changes with Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
  • Record planning data manually or with the aid of a computer or computer-based system.
  • Candidate has experience with factory safety guidelines.
  • Needs to have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Candidate must be able to thrive in a team environment, work independently, and embrace continuous improvement.

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
