This position supports Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Mission Architecture group in Huntsville, AL. Under general direction, the Senior Engineer generates designs, conducts performance analyses, as well as plans, coordinates and supports fabrication and testing for advanced warheads, propulsion concepts, and other emerging product applications. Provides imaginative, thorough and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems. Works within integrated product teams to formulate strategies and conduct necessary studies and trades in support of proposal activities and advanced product development. Supports product development risk mitigation planning along with associated testing requirements.
75% - Identifies, evaluates, and provides creative and practical solutions to a wide range of armaments and advanced system problems requiring the use of conventional engineering design and analysis methods and tools. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation of company processes and procedures. Works on assignments requiring broad knowledge of precedents in armaments and advanced systems and in-depth knowledge of principles and practices within the armaments and warhead development community. Performs analysis, design and test of armaments and advanced systems related to thermal, structural, and/or performance capabilities. Conceives and plans projects involving the development of existing and new programs that address technical objectives. Participates in the planning and conduct of system studies, design requirements, development testing, and design reviews. Defines systems requirements and determines applicable validation methods for compliance and verification. Participates in technical proposals describing design approach, relevant heritage, risk assessment and mitigation planning, and rationale with estimated cost and schedule.
25% - Prepares and delivers results in oral presentations and/or written documents. Provides guidance to less experienced engineers. Support engineering improvement initiatives such as tool enhancements and standard work procedures.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical Engineering or appropriate discipline and at least 5 years of related experience in armaments engineering disciplines (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Master's degree or higher preferred.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
