Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Material and Process Engineer to join our team in West Palm Beach, FL. The Senior M&P Engineer will join a diverse team of M&P engineers responsible for all M&P aspects of our liquid engine propulsion product lines. These aspects include selection and development of primarily metals and non-metals, joining and finishing processes, materials requirements management, production floor support and failure investigations as required. Working under limited general direction and exercising considerable and determining methods and approaches, the incumbent typically performs the following duties:
30% - Support design process by providing material selection recommendations, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning and supporting Engineering Review Boards; participating in design reviews and customer technical interchange meetings; evaluating suppliers and their materials to ensure they meet requirements; establishing requirements for materials and fabrication processes, as well as the selection and evaluation of materials for our propulsion products to provide reliable solutions.
35% - Support product production and development with a variety of material tasks such as evaluating stress corrosion, corrosion resistance, fuel compatibility, metallic and non-metallic joining techniques; identifying advanced materials; leading development of criteria and establishing standards for experimental, test and/or production purposes; performing laboratory and manufacturing experiments; and interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting on data and processes.
25% - Maintain interactions with customers on issues, such as materials obsolescence and critical items list; analyze and document technical conclusions of hardware failure; perform engineering analysis of nonconforming hardware, including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents.
10% - Perform other duties as assigned.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Material Science (or similar discipline such as Materials Engineering) and at least five years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced engineering degree is preferred.
A solid understanding of joining and inspection techniques for stainless steels, nickel alloys, ceramics and refractory metals, coatings, as well as the properties of those materials is required. Strong analytical and communication skills (written and oral) are required, along with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Candidate must be experienced with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This position requires the ability to read, interpret, prepare and issue drawings and related specifications, as well as the ability to use test and other measurement equipment. Six Sigma knowledge and experience in the aerospace industry are desired.
