Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Security Analyst for its Culpeper, Virginia facility. The Senior Security Analyst, under general direction, determines approaches to objectives demonstrating a complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

75% - Information Systems Security

The Senior Security Analyst will assume the responsibilities associated with the role of the Aerojet Rocketdyne Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM). As the ISSM, the candidate will support information assurance operations by: 

  • Interfacing with management and maintaining liaison with US Government information assurance oversight agencies and prime/subcontractor partners;
  • Interpreting government and company policy to ensure compliance with designated accrediting authority requirements for classified information systems and/or networks of varying complexity;
  • Providing information security guidance and direction to program and engineering management and participants. Establishing and maintaining required training and information security compliance deliverables;
  • Developing, maintaining and submitting government compliant system security plans and their associated procedures that are compliant with NISPOM, NISPOM Supplement and DoD Manual 5205.07;
  • Sustaining compliance with all aspects of government approved plans throughout system and program life cycles;
  • Generates and maintains an on-going information systems education and awareness program.

10% - Physical Security

The Senior Security Analyst will support physical security operations in the following areas:

  • Assists security management in the preparation of facility accreditation packages and site security plans.
  • Provide technical guidance on access control and intrusion detection systems to control center operators.
  • Provide continuous review and audit of physical security applications that support enterprise access operations.
  • Recommends physical security hardware and electronic security system solutions.

5% - Communications Security

The candidate will:

  • Support National Security Agency (NSA) communication security (COMSEC) account.
  • Perform maintenance and accountability actions associated with communication equipment. 
  • Provide support to management as needed to establish and maintain secure communication channels.
  • Be familiar with NSA websites and assoicated tools established to support the Informaoitn Assurance community.
  • Troubleshoot and deploy communication systems equipment

10% - General Duties

As applicable the candidate will be assigned other duties to assist in accomplishing department goals and objectives. 


A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and six (6) years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


DOD 8570.1 Certified; Security+ or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other applicable 8570.1 certifications is required.


In depth knowledge of information assurance requirements as outlined within the NISPOM, NISPOM Supplement, DoD Overprint, Director of Central Intelligence Directives (DCIDs or ICD equivalents) 6/3, and the DoD Manual 5205.07.


Communicate effectively, orally and in writing with all levels of management and individual contributors. Strong working knowledge of Windows based computer environments and Microsoft Office productivity software is essential.


Ability to analyze complex information security problems and provide focused solutions to accomplish program objectives.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement. Position may require the ability satisfy enhanced personnel security requirements.


Willing to travel (local and continental US) up to 10% of the time.

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto.  May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
