We are bringing 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama as the home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs and a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility. Our efforts are in full swing building upon our existing presence in Huntsville. Defense-related program management, engineering and related support positions will be housed at this site.
The design department is building a staff to meet this demand. We are building a team to the design industry leading solid and liquid propulsion systems. This team will design products such as solid rocket motors for a wide array of customers and programs, controllable solid propulsion systems, advanced solid rocket motor propulsion systems, advanced conceptual design to support the RocketShop as well as supporting enterprise wide efforts in areas such as hypersonics.
Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks Sr. CAD Engineers, Engineering Services, for this Huntsville, AL location.
With minimal direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments, this position performs engineering design assignments for preparation of engineering design document and maintaining the design disclosure. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Assignments require broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty and good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.
40% - Create, check and maintain design disclosure documentation for engineering designs. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of design layouts and/or preliminary conceptual design layouts.
30% - Performs design calculations to validate any phase of design requirements.
20% - Estimation of resources and schedule required to complete a design activity.
10% - Provide technical guidance to less senior designers and to design support personnel.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace) and nine (9) or more years of related technical experience in engineering design or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have Aerospace advanced development design experience and be able to work in a fast pace, high demanding work environment. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and a minimum of 9 years of experience with CAD systems (Creo 2.0 & NX 8.5 preferred) along with experience using CAD database management tools (Windchill & Teamcenter). Expert knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5). ASME Certification in GD&T is a plus.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to operate effectively in a team environment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. US Citizenship only required. Dual Citizenship does not meet job qualifications. This position requires the employee to have access to premises or perform duties which are subject to national security requirements of the United States under government contracts that impose US Citizenship requirements for such positions.
