We are bringing 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama as the home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs and a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility. This team will design products such as solid rocket motors for a wide array of customers and programs, controllable solid propulsion systems, advanced solid rocket motor propulsion systems, advanced conceptual design to support the RocketShop as well as supporting enterprise wide efforts in areas such as hypersonics.
Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks Sr. Composite Case Design Engineers and Solid Propulsion Design Engineers for this Huntsville, AL location. Using independent professional judgment and application of engineering principles, theories and concepts:
20% - Lead complex design projects with a focus in mechanical engineering and hardware integration for solid propulsion systems and/or composite structures. Work directly with chief engineers, system engineers and program leadership to plan and execute development projects and/or production hardware deliveries. Derive driving requirements, prepare engineering bill of materials and drawing release plans. Coordinate and oversee the work of less experienced engineering staff.
40% - Drive mechanical design activities for solid propulsion systems and components and/or composite structures. Solid propulsion design activities include strategic booster motors, tactical rocket motors and controllable solids. Composite structures design activities include strategic rocket booster composite cases, tactical rocket motor cases, composite armaments, composite over-wrapped pressure vessels, and composite flight structures. Individual work shall include developing design concepts, 3D models and support the development of detailed drawings for the manufacture of parts. Lead and conduct trade studies and develop component specifications and procedures as required. Coordinate with component analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality and customer support groups. Plan and execute design tasks with minimal oversight and work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
20% - Support shop floor and production hardware processing. Review and address non-conforming hardware, process planning, support production meetings, and work with supply chain to assure that design requirements are met. Lead engineering drawing and specification updates at configuration change boards.
20% - Prepare presentations and technical material for internal and external customers.
Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and nine (9) years or more of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. An advanced engineering degree is a plus. A strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools (CREO and/or NX) expected, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Prior experience with Solid Propulsion System component and assemblies and/or Composite Structures is key to performing job requirements. Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS Workbench and/or NX NASTRAN is desired.
