We are bringing 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama and building a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility where we will produce our industry-leading solid propulsion systems and our next-generation rocket engine. Our efforts to build on our existing presence in Huntsville are in full swing. Defense-related program management, engineering and related support positions will be housed at this site, home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs.

Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks Senior Electrical/Electronic Design Engineers for our Huntsville, AL location. The Senior Electrical/Electronic Design Engineers in our Avionics Electronics group contribute to the successful design and development of control electronic circuits for application on mission systems which operate in demanding environments. Electronics designers will work on complex analog circuit design for the electromechanical control of actuators, solenoids and servos. Aerojet Rocketdyne is a premier supplier of complex electronics for controlling large liquid engines and defense products.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

40% - Responsible for the analysis, design, development, documentation and verification of major circuit modules in complex electronics requiring a high level of technical innovation and initiative. Includes functional requirement derivation and analysis.


15% - Direct circuit or prototype design fabrication and assembly. Performs prototype testing to confirm electronic circuit design.


15% - Create and execute Avionics product  verification/validation tests including planning and test system design at circuit, component and/or system levels,


15% - Coordinate Supplier effort for electronic design or component manufacturing. May direct, coordinate and review the work of junior engineers and/or technicians.


15% Contribute to program planning, budget, and schedule for their design tasks and for successful completion of planned tasks.


Includes 10-15% - Travel to other Aerojet Rocketdyne, customer and/or supplier sites for design reviews and technical interface meetings.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or appropriate major (advance degree preferred) with an emphasis in electrical systems design and nine (9) or more years of directly related experience in control electronic circuit design engineering and product development or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of technology principles, theories and concepts in the electrical, electromechanical, systems design, test and integration, and system qualification required.
  • Experience with electrical hardware design areas and  related software technology tools: analog circuit design, circuit analysis and modeling (strong SPICE background); schematic capture and PCB design (Altium; ORCAD), electrical communication bus topologies and standards; DC motor control circuits; electronic sensors; electrical power conversion and distribution, FPGA, space electronics design and qualification, EEE parts management, electronic cable design.
  • Through understanding of the electronic product development lifecycle and design execution within a disciplined engineering development process model. Strong experience base for electronics testing and electronics system validation.
  • Desire demonstrated experience in development of advanced products for airborne and/or space applications. Understanding of electronics operation and design practices for severe or demanding external environments. Working knowledge of mechanical packing design for Avionics.
  • Demonstrated communication skills for technical presentations and documentation.


Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
