Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Technician, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration to join our facility in Sacramento, California.


The successful individual will install, overhaul, service, maintain, repair and modify a variety of Commercial/Industrial refrigeration, heating, ventilating air conditioning systems.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Installs, overhauls, services, maintains, repairs and modifies all types of Commercial & Industrial refrigeration, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems including minor air balancing. Monitors and makes adjustments to HVAC systems. Water treatment of cooling towers, evaporative condensers, heating and chilled water systems. Maintains environmental pneumatic and electronic controls for curing ovens cascade systems, environmental chambers, chillers, and ice bank systems. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions of related electrical and instrumentation equipment associated with the systems.


Assembles, disassembles, replaces or repairs worn and/or defective parts, reseals or replaces pumps and couplings as required on all control components and energy saving devices, back to 480V panel. Works with electronic and pneumatic controls. Change out, repair or rebuild compressors. Periodically checks and makes mechanical adjustments to ensure efficient operation and determine need for repairs, replacement, or overhaul.


Installs and repairs insulation in support of the job duties described herein. Uses all types of mechanic hand and power tools, welding torches, hand torches, flaring tools and test equipment required to perform work described herein. Properly handle and dispose of various types of refrigerant and other hazardous materials.


Additionally, employees in this classification can volunteer to be trained in order to be qualified to do boiler surveillance. Boiler surveillance will include, but not limited to such tasks as: blow down boilers, shut off and recycle; sign log sheet; adjust valves; and water chemistry test.


High school graduate or equivalent. Preferably a trade or vocational school graduate.


Must have universal refrigeration license as required by Federal law.


Must have at least four (4) years of industrial or commercial refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning service work. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.


Working knowledge of 480Volts to low voltage systems.


US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
