Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets. We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our Tool Engineering group. You will have a chance to use your creativity to design tools (through functional prototyping) that will make the manufacturing, assembly and testing of our rocket thrusters even more efficient. You will work closely with other manufacturing engineers, machinists, assembly technicians and test engineers. May also provide input or advice to rocket design engineers in regards to tooling aspects. Emphasis is placed on designing tools that are safe for both personnel and hardware, but also utilize concepts such as Design for Manufacturability (DFMA) and mistake proofing.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

50% - Design quality tools using parametric solid modeling software. Models must be thorough and complete to verify usability and interferences prior to fabrication. Completed drawings will be produced using ANSI Y14.5M-1982 standards and GD&T callouts.

10% - Rework existing tools to improve functionality, safety, or usability. Includes documenting changes in either electronic or hand drawing formats and working with manufacturing engineers to ensure proper implementation.

10% - Work with engineering staff to determine cost estimates for new tooling.

10% - Procure materials and hardware necessary to fabricate tooling. Can include everything from simple fasteners to exotic materials.

10% - Perform design reviews and tool proofs to verify proper form, fit, and function.

10% - Special improvement projects focused on particular aspects of manufacturing, assembly or testing.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: -Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must have strong parametric solid modeling and drafting background (Unigraphics NX preferred). Also requires a background with common manufacturing processes including milling, turning, and welding, as well as familiarity with ANSI drafting and GD&T standards, proof pressure testing of hardware and assembly fixturing. Familiarity with DFMA, mistake proofing, six sigma and lean manufacturing preferred.

US Citizenship Only Required. Dual Citizenship does not meet job qualifications.
