We are bringing 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama and building a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility where we will produce our industry-leading solid propulsion systems and our next-generation rocket engine. Our efforts to build on our existing presence in Huntsville are in full swing. Defense-related program management, engineering and related support positions will be housed at this site, home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs.
We are hiring Materials Engineer with non-metallics experience to support new product development as well as ongoing production programs. Aerojet Rocketdyne is identifying prospects with the skills and experience to fulfill our current and anticipated hiring needs. Under general supervision from the assigned Chief Engineer and/or Chief Project Engineer, apply materials and processes (M&P) engineering principles, design for six sigma techniques, lean manufacturing process knowledge, and sound decision-making disciplines to perform the following duties:
60% - Develop and characterize ceramic matrix composites, polymeric matrix composites, elastomers, fibers, resins, ablatives, and adhesive bonding systems. Identify, develop, and/or release material properties to support design analysis. Develop composite production processes for implementation and transition to production. Participate in design reviews and customer technical interchange meetings. Support design process by providing material selection recommendations, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, providing supplier technical support, and supporting Engineering Review Boards.
30% - Perform engineering analysis of nonconforming hardware including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents. Maintain interactions with customers on materials-related issues such as materials obsolescence. Conduct project progress reviews to ensure program control. Analyze and document technical conclusions of hardware failure. Conduct failure analysis to determine root cause.
10% - Active involvement in materials and processes technical community.
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Engineering, or similar major, and three to eight (3 - 8) years of directly related technical experience in Materials Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced degree desirable. Strong project planning, critical thinking, written and oral communication skills are required.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
