Overview

Aerojet Rocketdyne, a premier aerospace and defense company specializing in missile and space propulsion, is seeking a Combustion Analysis Engineer. As part of the engineering staff, you will be engaged in the design and analysis of aerospace propulsion systems at the component and system levels. This work will entail developing and using fluid dynamic, combustion and CFD tools as a key contributor in our Combustion and Fluid Dynamics Analysis group. This position will be located at our growing facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

 

This role may be filled at this level or one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Working under general supervision:

 

70% - Perform combustion and fluid dynamics analysis for solid and liquid propulsion systems using 1D, 2D, and 3D analytical tools, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis with software such as Fluent. Conduct pre-test performance predictions and post-test analysis of motor test data, and refine the analyses to better match the data through physics-based critical thinking. Be a key part of Aerojet Rocketdyne’s team by leading CFD analysis support on projects to develop solid rocket motors, liquid rocket engines, and high speed air-breathing propulsion systems.

 

20% - Participate in design and verification tests of both solid and liquid propulsion systems and components. Develop strategies to verify and validate analysis results. Participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings.

 

10% - Produce briefings for peer and management reviews, and present to internal and external customers. Using best practices, document all work and prepare formal reports.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

  • Experience or coursework in aerothermodynamics, compressible flow, and combustion required.
  • Experience using ANSYS Fluent or Loci framework CFD tools preferred.
  • An advanced degree is desired.

 

 

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
