Aerojet Rocketdyne Coleman Aerospace is looking for a Mechanical Engineer for it's Orlando, FL location. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical design aspects of missile systems and associated ground support equipment. Duties span conceptual design through detailed design technical drawings. Production support activities are also required including engineering change management and non-conformance resolution.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Duties and resposibilities will include:


  • The creation of mechanical detail design drawings of vehicle structures, component installations, ancillary brackets and adapters in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and published command media
  • Create concepts that comply with requirements for packaging of missile components, structural airframe, access requirements and concept of operations.
  • Ensure part interchangeability through proper application of tolerance stack-up methods.
  • Peer review design drawings and documents for sound application of mechanical engineering principles and proper application of command media guidelines.
  • Prepare presentation materials providing detailed overview of design features and compliance with requirements
  • Assess non-conformances for root cause / corrective action, provide disposition instructions and prepare Material Review Board materials as required.
  • Prepare engineering change requests as required to support production.
  • Comply with command media requirements regarding business practices and procedures.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in selected areas relevant to mechanical design of aerospace systems.


  • Must have a minimum of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related Engineering dgree) and at least 10 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with PTC’s Creo 2.0, especially with detail part design, large assembly management and drawing documentation.
  • Ability to develop aerospace structure designs including structure assemblies, component installations, and bracket designs that conform to requirements documents and assist in requirements verification of those designs.
  • Experience with aerospace flight vehicle design.
  • Proficiency with basic material selection, sheet metal design practices, basic machining practices and aerospace hardware selection.
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.5-1994 and generating detailed documentation of parts, assemblies and installations.
  • Proficiency with Part List preparation.
  • Proficiency with engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.
  • Detail-oriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers’ designs and drawings.
  • Ability to manage own time within the program plan requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, as well as obtain and maintain a security clearance. US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
  • Proficiency in design of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment and handling procedures / methods.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical analysis requirements and techniques desired.
  • Experience in non-conforming material review of root cause / corrective action and disposition instructions.
  • Experience with hands-on engineering support of manufacturing.
  • Experience in preparing conceptual models and desire review materials desired.
  • Experience in preparation of estimates for design tasks.
  • Experience with White Belt training, lean manufacturing, and/or 6-sigma practices desired.
