We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Drafting & Design Services for our Huntsville, AL facility. In this role, you will provide imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to a wide range of technical design problems.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under limited general direction and following established procedures in accordance with contractual requirements and Aerojet Rocketdyne policy and procedures, this position performs engineering design assignments for preparation of engineering design documents and maintaining the design disclosure. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Assignments require broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty and excellent knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties, requiring a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines. Typical responsibilities include: Performs design Verification (checking) and calculations to validate design requirements. Will require Project leadership for the management of designs requiring tracking assignments, percent complete and drawing release schedules for specific design release packages. Verification of Product Definition (Checking) includes models, drawings and PLM attributes and relationships.


40% - Create, check and maintain design disclosure documentation for engineering designs. This includes, but is not limited to, preparation of design layouts and/or preliminary conceptual design layouts as well as outsourced design project leadership.


30% - Performs design calculations to validate any phase of design requirements.


20% - Estimation of resources and schedule required to complete a design activity and training to staff.


10% - Provide technical guidance to less senior designers and to design support personnel. Provides data in support of Verification Metrics for design.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and at least 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 10 years of experience with CAD systems (NX, or Creo 2.0 preferred) along with experience using CAD database management tools (Teamcenter/Windchill). Expert knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5). ASME Certification in GD&T is a plus. Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and related specifications.


Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to operate effectively in a team environment.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
