We are bringing 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama and building a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility where we will produce our industry-leading solid propulsion systems and our next-generation rocket engine. Our efforts to build on our existing presence in Huntsville are in full swing. Defense-related program management, engineering and related support positions will be housed at this site, home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs.
We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for a full-time position supporting our solid rocket motor programs in our Huntsville, Alabama facility. This candidate will perform senior level engineering for the Systems Development, Verification and Test discipline in the Systems Engineering organization. The candidate will work without appreciable direction, exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments, perform systems engineering assignments requiring a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
This position may be filled at this level posted or one level higher.
80% - Provide for Systems Engineering application and approach in the development of hardware for solid rocket propulsion systems.
Responsibilities include but not limited to: Leading systems development activities of Solid Rocket Motor Programs, including propulsion system integration, solid rocket system development & verification planning, requirements verification, test planning, testing in various environments, solid rocket system and subsystem test, test equipment & facility coordination, test article assembly coordination & hardware assessment, instrumentation requirements and coordination, test readiness review & risk assessment and verification & test report documentation.
10% - Support chief engineer with team coordination and planning, interfacing with program management and customers. Provide leadership and discipline direction to less experienced engineers on team.
10% - Limited travel in support of customer meetings and offsite testing as required.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering, or related discipline, and a minimum of five (5) or more years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in rocket engine or motor development, systems engineering & integration, verification, operation and test. Demonstrated leadership competency with strong technical and team-working skills required. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential. Advanced degree and experience with solid rocket motors is desirable.
Must be willing and able to travel domestically as needed.
