This position involves leadership, development, deployment and measurement of the Aerojet Rocketdyne Lean & Six Sigma Business Operating System (ARBOS). Will provide strategic direction for all contiuous improvement aspects of the company, leading to execution of financial, growth, and competitiveness objectives. Position is an Enterprise-supporting role for continuous improvement with emphasis on being a Subject Matter Expert for technical problem solving and coaching. Selected candidate will utilize his/her extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in Continuous Improvement / Lean-Six Sigma, deploy across the company, and perform as a high-level Lean event facilitator. Must have demonstrated capability in bringing tangible value and benefit to related programs and processes. Position will be the Subject Matter Expert responsible for personally leading the most difficult and challenging business problems. And as a key member of the core continuous improvement group, will also be involved in the coaching, training, and developing of required skill sets, targeting employees and organizations at all levels of the Company. Candidate's passion for change will be coupled with significant project management effectiveness and a strong ability to think systemically, while driving operating system requirements to be data-driven, process-oriented, and customer-focused.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

40% - Provide strategic planning and direction for Continuous Improvement at site, COE, Program, and Enterprise level. Assist in the development of Lean & Six Sigma Operating System and related plans to meet company’s financial, execution, and growth objectives.


30% - Leading and coaching the most challenging Root Cause Analysis, and extremely well versed in advanced problem solving skills; Passionate focus on implementing preventative actions including process variation management and all levels of Mistake Proofing.


10% - Facilitate process improvement events at Site, COE, Program, and Enterprise levels including action follow-up (eg Value Stream Mapping events, 3Ps, Cellular Design, and miscellaneous Kaizen events)


10% - Train and coach employees, teams, and organizations in the use of Lean & Six Sigma operating system tools, processes, and methodology.


10% - Assess Affordability opportunities at all levels of the company, and partner with affected entities to create project plans that will drive efficiency and improved metrics at the program, site, and enterprise level. Support the company’s CIP (Competitive Improvement Program), facilitating the optimization/consolidation of site and product lines.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in either Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management or a Manufacturing discipline that includes Lean-Six Sigma in the curriculum (ie. Industrial Engineering) or a degree in a related field that encompasses quality and/or Lean Manufacturing-Six Sigma utilization, and at least 10 years of experience that includes demonstrated leadership in Lean & Six Sigma with specific experience in advanced problem solving techniques (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).


Must be certified to a recognized level of Lean & Six Sigma proficiency that includes advanced tool comprehension, practical facilitation of complex projects/events, and recognized Subject Matter Expert in advanced problem solving techniques. Lean & Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification, or equivalent is preferred.


Demonstrated experience in the successful facilitation of continuous process improvement events that have resulted in tangible cost savings and/or efficiency gains.


Experience in developing and leading a continuous improvement-based business operating system is preferred.


Experience with rocket engine/jet engine/missile defense propulsion systems preferred.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


This position requires business travel up to 50% of each month (2 weeks). The travel involves any of AR's sites, and possibly Suppliers, ranging from east to west coast, and many points in-between.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
