Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Maintainability and Product Support (M&PS) discipline at our facility in Huntsville, AL.


This Systems Engineering management role provides leadership support and is accountable for the technical engineering management of our space propulsion programs that require the design, development, verification and qualification of solid and liquid propulsion engines. This position requires knowledge and experience with space propulsion rocket engines used in launch vehicle applications.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

60% - Provide leadership and direct technical support of AR products and services for both development and operational / production programs. These programs include expendable and reusable Department of Defense and NASA liquid propulsion systems including Human-rated systems. Additional duties include assembly, integration, check-out and launch; ground handling equipment & facility coordination; anomaly investigations; and flight readiness review process.


20% - Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing, employee skill and career development, performance evaluations, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product.


10% - Manager will be responsible and direct the development and implementation of Systems Engineering methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between M&PS and other engineering disciplines and organizations.


10% - Provide leadership for the design, development and implementation of product and process improvement and affordability activities. Routine reporting and communication with M&PS Director and peer M&PS / Engineering Managers is also expected.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline and a minimum of 9 years of progressive experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in liquid rocket engine assembly, check-out, maintainability and support. Strong technical and team-working skills required. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
