We are currently seeking a Specialist, Category Management – Chemicals and Energetics to support our Supply Chain Materiel Management at our facility in Huntsville, AL, Los Angeles, CA, or Camden, AR.


This current opening may be filled at this level or at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

45% - Work is performed under limited general direction:

  • Developing and executing the global sourcing strategies for assigned categories throughout enterprise.
  • Lead negotiation and completion of contracts with global strategic and preferred suppliers to maximize benefits across enterprise.
  • Liaison and subject matter expert for assigned categories with various sourcing and engineering teams, site leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Understand and monitor current category market conditions/trends, developing technologies, supply chain capacity/capability, product knowledge, customer requirements and supply/demand challenges.
  • Support AOP and Strategic Plan Preparation - subject matter expert for assigned category, including researching and presenting global category futures market analyses and forecasts, supply chain risks, and supplier development.
  • Guide the selection, development and management of Strategic Suppliers to meet category cost and performance goals, with emphasis placed on ability to identify cost targets for relevant technology and product roadmaps.

25% - Enterprise spend analysis, metrics reporting:

  • Leading collaborative enterprise-wide, cross-functional category teams to analyze spend, develop and implement actionable spend management strategies and proactively manage the supply base for assigned category. Develops comprehensive risk management strategies and monitors and reports category trends, forward prices and supply risks.
  • Researches and prepares actions required for monthly/quarterly/annual metrics plan.
  • Develop and implement spend management strategies including supplier assessments and rationalization, negotiation for best value, security of supply, supplier diversity, continuous improvement and procurement/engineering collaboration.

20% - Oversight of Master Agreements, BPAs and LTAs:

  • Implement a rigorous and disciplined process for managing the supply base including leading periodic business reviews, monitoring and managing supplier performance (quality, cost, delivery, technology, service, and leadership), managing supplier relationships and collaborating with engineering to align technology roadmaps.

10% - Supplier Relationship Development:

  • Establish a strong network and foster collaboration with customers, suppliers, key stakeholders, and category team members. Facilitate key producer and/or distributor executive supplier relationships for assigned categories.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and six (6) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Requires the ability to travel up to 50% within the United States.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours as necessary to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
