Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, seeks a Senior Manager for a full time position within the Mission Architecture & Systems Analysis organization. This position combines management and technical roles to lead the multi-site Mission Architecture group from Huntsville, AL, and reports to the Director of the Mission Architecture & Systems Analysis group. The position provides management and technical leadership to the group’s systems analysts, conceptual designers, and development engineers in support of new business capture campaigns and advanced propulsion and armaments development projects.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

20% - Represents company and group with internal and external customers; is familiar with Business Development and Program Office internal customers along with corresponding product lines and strategies across company sites. Is familiar with Space and Defense customer applications and relationship to relevant company products, and including familiarity with industry related products. Supports and participates in capture campaigns strategies and proposals. Acts as liaison between group staff with management and other organizations


30% - Works with company internal and external customers to understand and define emerging requirements; directs architectural trades and designs, and presents study results and recommendations as required. Deploys group resources efficiently to respond to company's new business capture campaigns, proposal requirements, and development programs. Ensures that group procedures and best business practices are applied as required. Participates in study planning, execution, and peer reviews to guide and ensure that relevant product technologies are included and that resulting technical solutions are sound and impartial.


35% - Applies experience and understanding of mission analyses, vehicle architectures, and propulsion modeling to trade studies and design optimization that include liquid and solid rocket propulsion, armaments technologies, and air-breathing propulsion for space and defense applications. Provides leadership and direct technical support to propulsion and armament proposals, technology demonstration projects, and development programs as appropriate. Directs systems analyses to derive design requirements, and to assess system performance compliance for proposals and development programs.


15% - Provides group administration and management; develops and implements short and long-range planning for development and enhancing of group technical capabilities; oversees that group procedures and standard work are maintained; defines discipline related goals, and initiatives; works with group personnel to define and track individual development goals.


Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related engineering/scientific discipline, and at least fifteen years of related aerospace and solid, liquid, Electric, and advanced (nuclear, solar, etc.) propulsion systems and controls systems analysis and development experience. Must be a self-starter and pro-active mentor to address group and project goals, while performing effective conflict resolution as required. Previous architectural systems analyses, solid propulsion and armaments design, and associated development experience, including proposal development are strongly desirable. A demonstrated understanding of DoD/NASA engineering processes, materials, analysis and manufacturing is required. Must possess strong technical writing and effective presentation skills. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the Secret Level (requires U.S. Citizenship). Dual Citizenship does not meet job qualifications.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto.  May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
