More information about this job

The Coleman Aerospace Software Engineering Team is responsible for the full lifecycle of mission critical software used for the command and control of aerospace vehicles. In additional to mission critical software, significant support software is maintained by the team and used for ground testing of hardware both at the item and the system levels. This includes technologies related to real-time processing, embedded systems, hardware/software integration, and object oriented design. Coleman’s Software Team adheres to strict processes and procedures for the development of software requirements, detailed design, implementation, and testing in accordance with customer and internal requirements.

This opening is for a strong technical leader who will lead the software team from both the technical and programmatic perspectives. In this role, the candidate will be supporting the programs and functional management in task assignments, status reporting, technical oversight, and mentoring. In addition to the lead role, the candidate will also be required to develop and test alongside the other Software Engineers on a daily basis.

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Coleman Aerospace is looking for a highly self-motivated individual with strong leadership skills to lead the Coleman Aerospace Software Engineering department in their day-to-day tasks, as well as providing high-quality work products themselves. In this role, the candidate will first and foremost be responsible for the technical direction of the team. This will require good leadership skills, the eventual strong understanding of our products, the ability to quickly read and understand legacy code, and a fundamental background in the technologies we employ.

Additionally, this candidate will be required to interface directly with program management, functional management, and the customers to ensure work products are being completed on-time and within budget. Under this role, the candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.

In addition to the lead role responsibilities, the candidate will also be tasked with the design, implementation, maintenance, and testing of mission critical and support equipment software packages. This is generally performed in a real-time embedded environment, a Linux based real-time environment, or in a Windows based GUI environment.

The small team atmosphere provided by Coleman Aerospace demands the capability to devise simple solutions to complex engineering problems both independently, and by soliciting inputs from other technical subject matter experts. This position may require occasional overtime and travel as required to meet critical schedule milestones.
