We are bringing 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama and building a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility where we will produce our industry-leading solid propulsion systems, and our next-generation rocket engine. Our efforts to build on our existing presence in Huntsville are in full swing. Defense-related program management, engineering and related support positions will be housed at this site, home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs.

 

Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Specialist Project/Product Engineer for the Huntsville, AL location. The Specialist Project Engineer will help plan and perform propulsion program tasks in conjunction with program management. You will implement design and analysis tasks, special studies, experiments and hardware/test requirements. Additionally, you will coordinate ballistic, thermal, and structural analyses, as well as perform post-test examination, analyses, and reporting. You shall also have the ability to successfully:

  • Conceive and plan projects involving the development of new methods and conventional methods to attain objectives.
  • Provide direction and leadership for problem investigations and resolution across functional areas.
  • Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant projects, coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Provide lead project engineering responsibility for a major program of strategic importance.
  • Provide project engineering coordination and technical direction across functional areas with program office on assigned projects.
  • Monitor technical progress and review recommendations for change with program management.
  • Prepare and negotiate technical proposals for the Company.
  • Provide technical consultation to technical staff or other organizations.
  • Perform as the engineering cost account manager.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

 

65% - Support Engineering teams working on solid rocket motor development and production program tasks/problem resolution, etc. Direct and coordinate engineering work; manage technical progress, risk, schedule, and cost as needed.

 

15% - Monitor technical progress and interface with Program Management, Aerojet Rocketdyne customers, and other Aerojet Rocketdyne functional organizations to understand and develop resolution to program technical issues.

 

10% - Provide technical consultation to Program Management and Business Development organizations on business development activities such as writing white papers or preparing and presenting technical briefings to customers.

 

5% - Perform as technical lead on proposals to government customers or prime contractors for propulsion development or technology programs.

 

5% - Provide written and verbal status reports to Aerojet Rocketdyne Management, and provide leadership at product team meetings.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, and nine (9) or more years of directly related experience. two (2) or more years of experience with solid propellant propulsion projects is highly desired. CAD knowledge is desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required.

 

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
