Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Tax Analyst to join our office in El Segundo, California.


This role reports to the Senior Manager of Tax and will contribute to the developing organizational objectives, as well as function as the tax accountant to various tax assignments. Typical responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Company’s quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations in compliance with ASC 740;
  • Prepare and assist with Company’s income tax filings for federal, state and local jurisdictions;
  • Assist with state income/sales tax audits and respond to various tax notices from taxing authorities; and
  • Assist with the Company’s various tax planning projects including research and writing.

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Working under general supervision (work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy) and following established direction:


25% - ASC 740: Assist with the preparation of income tax provision computations including any related memos and SEC footnote disclosures.


25% - Federal and State Compliance: Prepare and assist with the Company’s income tax returns for federal, state and local jurisdictions.


25% - Federal and State Audits: Assist with federal and state income/sales tax audits. Respond to various tax notices received from federal, state, and local taxing authorities.


5% - Tax Planning: Assist in tax planning strategy projects.


10% - Technical Support for: Property tax, sales use tax, payroll tax, 1099 reporting and other miscellaneous tax compliance and reporting, including special projects.


10% - Tax Research: Research in connection with income tax provision and income tax returns matters.


Secondary Function: 5% - Continuing Education: Remain current in new tax law changes and tax developments.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related major and at least three (3) years of directly related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). CPA highly desirable. Tax experience with a Big 4 Accounting firm and/or large corporation is preferred.


US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking and climbing; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and occasional travel.
