Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products, seeks a Manager for a full-time position in the Engineering Analysis Aero Thermal Fluids (ATF) discipline in Canoga Park, California.
This Aero Thermal Fluids Engineering management position provides leadership support and is accountable for the detailed analysis of AR liquid rocket propulsion space programs with advanced turbomachinery. This position requires knowledge of and experience in leading and integrating turbine aerodynamics, pump hydrodynamics, and mechanical elements (bearings, seals, secondary flows) analyses to verify rotating machinery designs meet aerothermodynamic performance requirements of rocket propulsion systems used in space applications.
60% - Manager will provide leadership and direct aerothermal fluids analysis technical support of AR products and services for both development and operational / production programs. These programs include AR1, HCB, RL10, RS-25, RS-68, and other liquid rocket engine and space applications. Additional duties include requirements derivation, understanding customer specified requirements, coordinating with other team members to provide aero/hydro loads and material properties data as necessary to support rotating machinery systems. An important job function will be to support or lead anomaly and failure investigations in this area.
20% - Manager will perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing, employee skill and career development, performance evaluations, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product.
10% - Manager will be responsible for and direct the development and implementation of aerothermodynamic analysis methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between ATF and other engineering disciplines and organizations.
10% - Manager will provide leadership for the design, development and implementation of product and process improvement and affordability activities. Routine reporting and communication with the Analysis senior director, ATF director, Engine Systems Senior Manager and other ATF engineering managers is also expected.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or similar engineering discipline and a minimum of 9 years of progressive rotating machinery design and analysis experience. Master’s degree strongly desired. PhD degree is a plus. Strong technical and team-working skills required. Previous lead or management experience is a plus. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Experience in integrating turbine, pump and mechanical elements into high power density, high performance turbopumps is essential. Expert level knowledge of analytical and test techniques for turbopumps used in liquid rocket engines and other corresponding space hardware is strongly desired. Experience leading a team of analysts and performing analysis using legacy and commercial tools is strongly desired. Experience of aerospace product development in a large team-based environment is strongly desired
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
