Overview

  • The Operation Safety is the on-site Safety Assurance representative responsible for observing compliance with all safety procedures.
  • The Operations Safety is responsible for identifying hazards and proposing mitigations associated with the manufacture, assembly, testing, and operation of missile systems and equipment.
  • Must be capable of climbing 25 foot vertical ladders
  • Responsible for maintenance and inspection of safety Equipment (Fire Extinguishers, AED Eyewash).
  • Responsible for interface with Government Safety Representatives
  • Must interface with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Program Management, Production) for resolution of real time issues discovered during manufacture and test of target vehicles.
  • Up to 50% travel required, primarily to Cape Canaveral facility.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

  • Ensure site is safe for scheduled and credible emergency operations
  • Analyze and perform assessment on all safety hazards and recommend improvements to processes and ensure optimal integration of safety features on all contracts
  • Coach proper safety behaviors on site
  • Participate in test activities and ensure compliance to all safety requirements and evaluate system engineering documents
  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures and coordinate with management staff to identify all risks and prepare reports for same
  • Assist in facilities maintenance (Crane/Hoist inspections, Fire suppression Egress paths, security alarms)

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: BS in Technical field or the equivalent combination of education and experience in operations safety.  The ideal candidate will possess 2-4 years of related experience. Knowledge of AFSPCMAN 91-710 is desired.  29 CFR 1910 and 1926 (OSHA) knowledge is required.

 

SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD 'Secret' Security Clearance with COMSEC.  Must satisfactorily complete safety training courses for working in the vicinity of, handling, testing, and installation of explosive devices.  Must be able to climb 20 foot ladders and have no fear of working at heights. Must be able to wear fall protection harness and work from a scissor lift.
