Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) offers a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion.
This individual will function as the Defense Division additive manufacturing integrator while continuing to pursue advanced materials and manufacturing solutions for Defense program needs.
70% - Support Defense programs for additive manufacturing insertion. This "integrator" role requires the individual to guide the individual Defense programs through the additive manufacturing process/alloy selection, part development, qualification and production transition. Initial programs to be supported include (but not limited to) Hypersonics (scramjet/ramjet), ATACMS, MCAT, THAAD, RKV, Coleman target vehicle, UUV, warheads, armor and energetics. In this role, the individual will be considered the additive manufacturing subject matter expert (SME) in relation to alloy technology readiness levels (TRL), work scope to advance TRL's and process/equipment selection. The make/buy decision making process will also be supported by this individual. If a "buy" solution is desirable, this individual will work with the AM category manager to identify best suited sources for AM support. An additional role for this "integrator" position will be to support Defense program customer meetings where AM content will be discussed. This individual will support these customer meetings with a concise technical and programmatic content and ability to communicate to customers this information at a level that can be easily comprehended.
25% - Advanced materials and manufacturing development for Defense programs. In this role, the individual will perform ongoing assessments of the Defense program designs where gaps exist in advanced materials. These include metallic alloy solutions as well as non-metallic ceramic matrix composites or other material solution that improves cost or performance of the targeted product. Similarly, advanced manufacturing process (inclusive, but not limited to additive manufacturing) shall be explored to identify those processes that would improve cost and/or performance of Defense propulsion components. In this role, the individual will coordinate closely with U.S. Government customers to identify mutual interests and help shape advanced materials and manufacturing technology programs that can then be pursued and captured by AR. Once captured, this individual would manage these programs. Where external funding is not available, this individual will prioritize and establish an IR&D approach to maturing these advanced materials and manufacturing processes to support the program need.
5% - Facilities and internal infrastructure planning for advanced manufacturing supporting Defense propulsion programs. In this role, the individual will continually evaluate the advance manufacturing technology equipment and internal capital and facility needs to support growth of the internal advanced manufacturing capability. This includes Defense program projections on the future needs and equipment requirements to support. This also includes a continuous assessment of the advanced manufacturing technology / equipment for ensuring the best solutions are considered.
Some travel is expected for this position. Specifically, in development of relationships with Government and Industry customers to establish a mutual interest in developing a program to advance the technology. Also, travel would be needed to fully understand the AR Defense program needs for advanced materials/manufacturing to the respective sites. Estimated percent time on travel is 25%.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and 9 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. citizenship). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
