Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking an Avionics Engineering Manager to join our facility in Canoga Park, CA.


Aerojet Rocketdyne's Space Power Design and Analysis group develops power converters for electric propulsion and other satellite and spacecraft power systems. This position supports the Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Avionics Engineering organization and reports to the Senior Engineering Manager of Space Power Design and Analysis. The position requires the candidate to perform process and technical related managerial and direct duties in support of Avionics power design projects.


This position requires managing individual contributors at the manager’s site to ensure personnel are trained and our programs are properly staffed and supported. The programs being supported include programs at the Canoga Park site, however, interactions with other disciplines and programs from across the enterprise may be required.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

This position requires the candidate to work with Engineering Managers, Program Managers, Chief Engineers, and Integrated Product Team members to successfully manage the technical aspects of design projects in support of program cost, schedule, and technical requirements.


25% - Provide supervision and leadership on the overall product development process including feasibility, concept development, detailed design, and verification   phases of the avionics development processes.


25% - Provide employee mentoring and career development opportunities to ensure a dedicated workforce is always ready and available to satisfy the avionics design needs across a variety of AR programs.


20% - Develop and implement process improvements, tools and training as needed to streamline Enterprise design costs for programs while also reinforcing design to cost and re-use when possible


20% - Ensure standard work processes, schedule, budget, and quality metrics are met.


10% - Work within a other engineering disciplines across engineering.


Up to 10% travel may be required.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering (or other related engineering/scientific discipline) and at least nine years of design related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must possess strong technical writing and effective presentation skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to perform effective conflict resolution, mentor and motivate employees to successfully meet program cost, schedule and technical goals.
  • Experience with Rocket Engines and Space Rated Avionics components and systems are a plus.
  • Previous avionics design experience and knowledge specifically of power supply topologies is strongly preferred and a demonstrated understanding of DoD/NASA engineering processes, materials, analysis and manufacturing is desired.
  • Preferred prior people or project leadership experience.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
