Aerojet Rocketdyne is currently seeking a Design Engineer to join our team in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area). This candidate will join the engineering team developing propulsion for human space flight and missile defense applications.

Mechanical engineering of hardware used in high pressure and temperature propulsion applications. Apply design knowledge to develop components and systems that advance liquid thruster technologies. These pressure fed systems utilize tanks, valves, injectors, chambers and nozzles leveraging advanced metallic, ceramic and composite materials. Work is performed independently and/or with the supervision of senior staff.
50% - Mechanical design activities for liquid thruster propulsion system components and assemblies. Will independently develop designs from system requirements using computer aided design tools in conjunction with preliminary finite element simulations. Lead trade studies and work with analysis, manufacturing and quality engineering to fabricate parts that support program requirements.
20% - Test integration tasks. This will include test stand assessment for mechanical and electrical interfaces and design of required integrating hardware. Support test readiness reviews and tasks that may include manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, component and system level qualification tests.
20% - Work directly with the factory floor during hardware fabrication. May work as the engineering representative during supplier visits and remote manufacturing operations. Interpret engineering design requirements and alignment with machine tool capability. Address non-conforming hardware. Participate in engineering drawing and specification configuration change boards.
10% - Prepare and present technical presentations for internal and external customers. Generate engineering reports necessary to document tolerance analyses, trade studies, or failure investigations.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and two (2) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. An advanced engineering degree is a plus. A strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools expected, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Prior experience with pressurized systems (tanks, valves, fluid flow devices, metallic joining and processes) is key to performing job requirements. Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS Workbench is desired.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
