Aerojet Rocketdyne is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team in Canoga Park, CA

Mechanical engineering of hardware used in high pressure and temperature propulsion applications. Apply design knowledge to develop components and systems that advance liquid thruster technologies. These pressure fed systems utilize tanks, valves, injectors, chambers and nozzles leveraging advanced metallic, ceramic and composite materials. Work is performed independently and/or with the supervision of senior staff. May evaluate field installations (remote test site hardware integration) and deisgn integrating hardware. Requires independent work. May lead the work of less experienced engineering staff and have accountablity for schedule and scope performance.
25% - Primary responsibilities are to drive mechanical design activities for liquid system components and assemblies. Develop design concepts, 3D models and support the development of detailed drawings for the manufacture of parts. Conduct trade studies and develop component specifications and procedures as required. Perform up-front analysis calculations. Interact with component analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality and customer support groups. Plan and execute design tasks with limited direction and work effectively within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
25% - Develop test plans, design ancillary hardware to integrate systems with test facilities and support hardware test operations. May lead or assist in risk reduction and environmental testing which supports manfacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, component and system level qualification tests. Work directly with test personnel to develop pressure and instrumentation schematics. Design hardware with consideration for lifting, handling and human factors.
25% - Responsible for the completion of mechanical hardware that is created using advanced machining processes and joining techniques (brazing, welding, difussion bonding). Engage outside suppliers through the development of mechanical hardware. May support internal shop floor and hardware processing. Review and address non-conforming hardware, process planning, support production meetings, and work with supply chain to assure that design requirements are met. Lead engineering drawing and specification updates at configuration change boards.
25% - Prepare presentations and present technical information for internal and external customers. Responsible for preparing engineering reports to support tolerance studies, engineering analyses or failure investigations, including technical close-out reports.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and five (5) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. An advanced engineering degree is a plus. A strong mechanical aptitude and experience with CAD software tools is desired, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Prior experience with pressurized systems (tanks, valves, fluid flow devices, metallic joining and processes) is key to performing job requirements. Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS Workbench is desired.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
