Aerojet Rocketdyne's Hall Current and Arcjet Thruster propulsion systems are key components of Geo-synchronous satellites used by military and commercial satellite service providers. Additionally Hall Thruster Propulsion Systems propel interplanetary spacecraft to and from their distant destinations. Aerojet Rocketdyne is the premier supplier of these enabling propulsion systems.
Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Redmond, WA facility. In this role, you will contribute to the success of these space missions by driving the technical development, qualification, and production of Hall, Arcjet, Ion, or other electric propulsion (EP) thruster systems comprising of power processors, propellant flow management, and thruster subcomponents. The candidate will demonstrate knowledge of this technology and attention to detail and the highest standards of quality assurance for the production of mission critical hardware.
Typical duties will include assisting the program manager in manufacturing and delivering flight hardware, guiding integrated product development teams, and leading product proposals. Additional duties will include performing technical analyses, conceptualizing new product designs, establishing system requirements and specifications, planning and conducting test and product verification activities, analyzing test data, developing new business relationships, and generating customer presentations.
Working under general supervision:
60% - Lead technical activities on major programs. Perform tasks, delegate tasks and make decisions required to design, analyze, build and test electrical propulsion thrusters and thruster systems. Verify Aerojet Rocketdyne’s products are in compliance with customer requirements. Demonstrate to our customers that Aerojet Rocketdyne is the best value supplier for their propulsion needs.
15% - Lead investigations or technical studies to closure rapidly and rigorously, applying appropriate resources and personnel in a cost-effective manner. Accumulate, prepare and present the documentation that is required to close an effort, including reports, Test Procedures and Work Instructions.
15% - Support proposal activities and manage internal research and development efforts as assigned.
10% - Active mentoring of less experienced personnel. Cultivate an existing knowledge base and build on it to serve as a resource to Aerojet Rocketyne and our customers for design, test and implementation of thrusters and propulsion systems.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline and 2 years of experience, preferably in electric propulsion, plasma devices or mission-critical technology. A Master's degree or higher in an Engineering discipline or Physics is preferred. Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrated engineering leadership experience in a production environment developing and improving products and manufacturing processes.
Strong verbal, written, presentation, and team-working skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is expected.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
