    Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support our propulsion programs. This position will be located at our facility in Redmond, WA. We are seeking a motivated, experienced engineer to assist in the development and production of monopropellant and bipropellant rocket engines. You will work closely with our customers and meet their needs by leading the engineering aspects of planning, design, analyses, development, qualification, and production of chemical propulsion thrusters. The individual will work closely with Program Office personnel to meet Aerojet Rocketdyne's business goals. The candidate will also interact with the propulsion system design groups and component engineers to specify, identify, and select the best technical solutions to meet performance expectations.

     

    This position may be filled at this level posted or one level higher.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    The percentage of time listed below is approximate and varies depending on assignments and business needs.

     

    Provides leadership in support of program tasks and hardware technology development test efforts. The successful candidate may support both development and production programs. Among the duties will be customer presentations and submittals, as well as coordinating activities with internal organizations such as Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Test. Estimated workload distribution:

     

    20% - Lead engineering support for the production of high-performance monopropellant and/or bipropellant rocket engines. This includes requirements management, anomaly resolution, and anomaly prevention.

     

    20% - Plan, conduct, and analyze data from engine hot fire tests.

     

    15% - Support component development and qualification, including supplier oversight and management.

     

    15% - Provide hardware fabrication support, including nonconformance resolution.

     

    10% - Present results at internal and external meetings.

     

    10% - Conduct performance, fluid dynamics and other engineering analysis as required in support of trade studies and programs.

     

    10% - Support proposal activities and manage internal research and development efforts, as necessary.

    Requirements

    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field and 5 years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

     

    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

    Experience with monopropellant, bipropellant, rocket propulsion systems and/or rocket engine technology development is desired.

     

    Experience working an equivalent engineering environment is desired.

     

     

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
