    Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Canoga Park, CA (Los Angeles area). In this role, you will perform a variety of mechanical engineering tasks on fast-paced liquid rocket engine development programs. This position reports to the Pump Fed Engines Design Manager (or designated lead).


    This position may be filled at this level posted or one level higher.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Works under general supervision and and follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgement, overall adequacy and accuracy.


    70% - Primary responsibilities are for the design of top level liquid rocket engine 3D layouts, assemblies and related system components from conceptual design through production phases. Individual must be able to perform engine system level/component design tasks for liquid rocket engines with minimal supervision. Primary duties include working within an integrated product team (IPT) environment to design/revise engine assemblies and system components utilizing 3D CAD software, coordinating analysis support and releasing drawings/models on time.


    10% - Guides the procurement of development hardware and the establishment of manufacturing processes. Interfaces with suppliers and assures that design requirements and intent are met.


    10% - Assists in the identification and support of risk reduction and environmental test requirements. This may include manufacturing pathfinders, subscale testing, component and system level qualification tests. Develops test plans and technical reviews.


    10% - Supports informal (table-top) reviews of engineering designs, provides design content sections for technical presentations (CoDR, PDR, CDR) and presents information to internal and external customers.


    Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related engineering/scientific discipline and at least two years of directly related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must be a self-starter. Hands-on experience with mechanical systems is expected (aerospace, automotive, aircraft or machinery). Must have experience with CAD software design tools (Creo v2.0/NX 8.5). A demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, materials and engineering analysis is required. Experience with liquid rocket engines a plus.


    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
