    Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Business Operations Manager to join our facility in Huntsville, Alabama.


    In this role, you will serve as the Missile Defense Business Sector Manager and will be responsible for the overall operation of a business area and shared services within the Company. Typical expectations:

    • Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of individuals involved in financial data, planning and control of organizational operations.
    • Manage the development of accurate and timely financial reports; responsible for forecasting and monitoring of financial performance of contracts, departmental costs, capital expenditures, and discretionary funds.
    • Monitor the development and documentation process of the unit’s database and estimating system.
    • Determine data management requirements for contracts and supervise the preparation, publication, and distribution of required data to appropriate organizations and customers.
    • Ensure compliance with customer pricing requirements.
    • Perform short and long-range planning and implement approved plans.
    • Responsible for the development of cost volume command media.
    • Oversees the performance measurement systems implementation and compliance.
    • Direct and oversee earned value implementation, including managing integrated costs and schedule baselines, forecasts, variance analysis, etc.
    • Responsible for the development and maintenance of schedule data in support of contract, project, and internal requirements; ensure existence and compliance of good fiscal control procedures; and ensure that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with organizational policies, Department of Defense regulations, and sound business practices.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    40% - Provide administrative leadership and concept definitions critical to the maintenance of the organizational unit's business posture.

    • Advises direct reports in the resolution of operational problems based on specific goals, organizational unit policies and procedures.
    • Interprets, recommends, and executes policies and procedural changes.
    • Administers financial and/or proposal preparation procedures.
    • Monitors financial objectives and performance indicator criteria for the business unit to include monthly Business Close Analysis.
    • Responsible for cost/schedule performance analysis and methodology, cost reporting requirement and management review procedures in a disciplined Earned Value Management environment.
    • Develops and implements changes to the management control system to improve visibility and operating efficiencies.
    • Submits and administers operational budgets and schedules.
    • Manages and performs proposal risk assessments as required.
    • Manages the development and implementation of organizational unit estimating methodologies.
    • May provide the technical interpretation of laws, regulations, accounting principles and other professional materials.
    • May manage the development and documentation of organizational unit database, estimating, pricing and cost volume system.

    30% - Manage a team of individual contributors.

    • May coordinate activities of various functions including program management, financial management, manufacturing, quality, procurement and contracts.
    • Manages allocation and integration of department resources to meet objectives.
    • Performs hiring and other staffing responsibilities.
    • Establish and maintain a development plan for direct reports.

    20% - Work with the Area Business Sector Program Managers to determine organizational financial objectives.

    • Concurrently establish organizational objectives, analyzes data, recommends direction and corrective action.
    • Review direct and overhead performance.
    • Monitor performance and tracking through proper process and performance controls.

    10% - Evaluate and recommend appropriate proposal and negotiation strategies.

    • Recommend risk based assessment of proposal assumptions, cost, schedule and performance.
    • Provide support for estimating ROMs.


    Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have demonstrated supervisory skills, including the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control the activities of the assigned organization.


    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
