    ARDE, Inc., a division of Aerojet Rocketdyne, is a recognized leader in the design and manufacture of spaceflight pressure vessels. ARDE Inc. maintains the elements and culture of a small business working in a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) environment, with many contracts subject to FAR 15. We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer, Design & Material Processing to join our facility in Carlstadt, New Jersey.

     

    The Senior Engineer (Level 3) is responsible for the detailed design and analysis of all ARDE products which include high pressure composite overwrapped pressure vessels, all metal propellant tanks and all metal pressurant tanks for spaceflight applications. The candidate should have a working knowledge of finite element analysis tools such as ABAQUS and FEMAP, engineering design tools such as AutoCAD and Solidworks. A background in material and processing along with experience in Product Assurance/Material Selection process for aerospace is plus. Candidate must be able to communicate analysis results through comprehensive/narrative reports and program presentations.  Candidate will be expected to participate in customer reviews. The candidate shall complete and document stress analyses, FMECA, compliance evaluation, test plans/procedures and test reports. The small environment of the ARDE business unit allows the senior analyst to have large role in completion of product qualification and program support throughout the products life.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    The position is a direct "hands-on" position responsible for Project Engineering of several development and production programs within the growing ARDE's business base. Under limited general direction:

     

    50% - Provides core expertise in analysis and material selection/control.
     
    20% - Customer interaction supporting above.
     
    30% - Generation of program documentation, such as narrative reports and material justifications. The ability to independently perform structural and dynamic analysis is essential in performance of the engineer position as ARDE operates to a lean model, which drives a need for individuals with broad bandwidth

    Requirements

    A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and at least five (5) years of progressively increasing responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 

     

    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

    • This position requires demonstrated skill in directing resources, including the ability to plan and coordinate the activities of the assigned organization.
    • Candidate must possess the ability to multi-task and be able to work effectively with all disciplines.
    • Candidate must have a good understanding of how programs, engineering, quality and manufacturing work cohesively in a small company environment in short cycle development, qualification and production build cycles.
    • The product/components are designed to aggressive structural margins, thus a background working in structures and Materials and Process (M&P) engineering for metal and composite structures is beneficial.
    • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to comprehensively document and communicate to the highest technical standards. The product requires an extreme level of documentation based on criticality of application.
    • Experience in an AS9100 registered organization is preferred.
    • Position requires a demonstrated ability to develop strong teaming/ cross discipline relationships.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
