    We are seeking a senior-level Component Product Engineer for the development, fabrication and test of rocket and hypersonic engine components. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

     

    This position may be filled at the level posted or at the next higher level.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Under limited general direction, the Senior Engineer determines approaches to satisfy objectives by demonstrating a complete understanding and application of principles, concepts and practices.  The Senior Engineer performs professional engineering assignments applying manufacturing and producibility knowledge to improve hardware delivery performance through lean practices and non-conformance avoidance. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

     

    25% - Development, fabrication, and test support to suppliers for engine components, using engineering and scientific principles.

     

    25% - Translates engineering and scientific concepts to preliminary ideas and implements solutions throughout the product life cycle.

     

    30% - Interfaces with other members of project, program teams, management, technical staff, and suppliers to define and implement affordable engineering solutions to meet group, organization and company objectives.

     

    10% - Perform supplier integration with external vendors. Facilitate requirements flow down and the validation of manufacturing and test to meet those requirements.

     

    10% - Analyzes and verifies product design and performance for adequacy and reliability. Supports investigation and resolution of hardware and process anomalies and issues identified by preventative action/corrective action boards or safety initiative activities.

    Requirements

    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field with five (5) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Experience with solid rocket propulsion components is required. Experience with liquid rocket components a plus. Experience working in an equivalent engineering coordination and leadership role is desired.

     

    Familiarity and experience with the following processes is a plus:

    • bid and proposal
    • earned value
    • lean manufacturing
    • failure investigations
    • risk assessments and mitigations

    Technical experience in the area of design standards and manufacturing techniques for the following is required:

    • ignition
    • metal and composite cases
    • pressure vessels
    • nozzles
    • ablatives
    • internal insulation
    • Adhesives

     

    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

     

    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. The position requires the ability to travel by air or auto as much as 50% of the scheduled work time. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
