    Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture, and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for the Mechanical Design Engineering discipline for our growing facility in West Palm Beach, FL.


    The Senior Manager position will report directly to the Senior Director of Design and will serve as the discipline site lead in West Palm Beach. This management role provides leadership support to the site Engineering Lead and General Manager and is accountable for directing the engineering technical execution of the design activities for our WPB based space and defense propulsion programs. This position requires broad knowledge of component design (including Combustion Devices, Turbomachinery, Valves, and system components), vehicle and test facility integration, and experience with environments applicable to launch vehicles and missile systems.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    60% - Plan, administer, and manage the activities, programs, and staff of the Mechanical Design group at the West Palm Beach site. Primarily responsible for management of engineering design activities to achieve the desired performance and cost characteristics of components and integrated systems for Aerojet Rocketdyne space and defense products and services including the RL10, RS-25, Hypersonics, and critical tooling as required within budgetary and schedule constraints while minimizing mission and program risk. Primary duties include supporting program chief engineers and IPTs to successfully manage designs and design processes to meet programs’ cost, schedule, quality and risk requirements using/improving Enterprise design processes and tools.  Provides internal and external Design Review support to assure product designs meet program requirements, AR design procedures and best practices.


    20% - Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing and performance, employee skill and career development, employee motivation, performance evaluation, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work products.  The position is accountable for technical engineering management of projects and/or proposals in the areas of development, design, analysis, and production in accordance with company goals, policies, and schedules. Responsible for the department financial performance and mitigation to ensure design department reporting metrics are in-line with established goals and plans for the enterprise and site. Proactively address Engineering and Design Metrics to enable early detection of adverse trends and expeditiously resolve issues at the earliest possible point in the product life cycle. Champion root cause and corrective action. Support site level and program CAB’s and driving for systemic solutions.


    10% - Define and implement design processes, tools and capability to meet local assigned areas of responsibility and be integrated with enterprise standards.  This may be accomplished by working with other managers or through leading an enterprise wide initiative.  Assure all design standards and standard work are aligned and integrated with the Design enterprise structure.  Identify and champion design improvements for the enterprise improving overall design department capability. Manage staff assignments and engagement to create an integrated culture with other design departments


    10% - Provide short and long-range planning for engineering operations and implement approved plans; plan and direct the development and implementation of department systems, methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between engineering staff and other organizations, and assure that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with company policies, sound business practices and are in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements. 


    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or similar discipline and at least 14 years of progressive experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


    A Master's degree in one of the above disciplines or management is preferred.


    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.



    Work Environment and Physical Requirements

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
