Aerojet Rocketdyne is looking for a Laboratory Chemist to join our facility in Culpeper, Virginia. This position is part of the Materials and Process (M&P) Engineering discipline and will support Solid Propellants and Materials related tasks.
Working under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, you will conduct a variety of standardized testing. You will assist in the set-up and operation of various types of instrumentation and wet chemistry methods. Assistance in data reduction and report generation is also required.
This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.
85% - Perform routine laboratory analysis of chemicals and energetic materials to include particle size analysis, titrations, moisture analysis, and other testing as required.
15% - Consolidate results, prepare findings for reports and distribute results.
Requires an Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and two (2) years directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor of Science in Chemistry preferred. Knowledge of chemistry, chemical handling, and sound laboratory principles is essential.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship). Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work place may include areas where a wide variety of chemical materials are used and stored. May involve potential exposure to variable noise levels. Must customarily have a high consciousness for personnel and equipment safety. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, shop coat, and respirator. Employees in this position must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
