Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design manufacture and operation of a number of critical US space and defense products is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) discipline for our growing facility in Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles area).
This Materials and Processes Engineering, Materials Process Development management role provides leadership support and is accountable for the technical engineering management of our space propulsion programs that require selection, evaluation, and design requirements of materials and processes used to produce rocket engines. This management role is also responsible for new materials and process development and eventual deployment of the technologies across Aerojet Rocketdyne programs and products.This position requires knowledge and experience with space propulsion environments applicable to launch vehicles.

70% - Plan, administer, and manage the activities, programs, and staff of the Materials Design Support group within Materials and Processes Engineering at the Los Angeles site. Primarily responsible for management of engineering activities to provide design consultation in materials and processes selection to achieve the desired performance characteristics of hardware for all Aerojet Rocketdyne programs including liquid propulsion systems for RS-68, RS25, AR-1, Orion, RKV and other liquid propulsion systems as required within budgetary and schedule constraints. Activities include supplier selection, process development, materials evaluation, drawing reviews, the preparation of design review packages, and the preparation of specifications to support these activities as required. Good technical documentation of all decisions is also required. Ensure preservation of the Company’s intellectual property through documentation of current design and processes as well as innovative ideas. Keep abreast with the latest developments in innovative materials and process technology through supplier interaction, University contacts, and industry peers.
20% - Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing and performance, employee skill and career development, employee motivation, performance evaluation, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product. Accountable for technical engineering management of projects and/or proposals in the areas of development, design, analysis, and production in accordance with company goals, policies, and schedules. Responsible for the department financial performance and mitigation to ensure department reporting metrics are in-line with established goals and plans.
10% - Provide short and long-range planning for engineering operations and implement approved plans; plan and direct the development and implementation of department systems, methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between engineering staff and other organizations, and assure that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with company policies, sound business practices and are in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a Materials Science, Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or similar discipline and at least 9 years of progressive experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). A Master's degree is preferred, but can be an MBA.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
