    Aerojet Rocketdyne offers a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion. These include Atlas and Delta launch vehicles, RL10 engine, J2-X engine, and RS-68 engines.

     

    We are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer working in a test operations environment supporting production and development rocket engine test programs.

     

    This opening may be filled at the posted level or at one level above.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Working under general supervision, the incumbent will have conceptual knowledge of technical standards, theories, concepts and techniques within the discipline and apply the knowledge to solve technical problems following established/standard policies and procedures.

     

    25% - Responsibilities emphasize real-time plant operational support including extensive facility and integrated systems troubleshooting and immediate design correction analysis.

     

    25% - Participate in development program budget estimates and provide implementation oversight of facility modification engineering packages using industry standards and specifications. 

     

    50% - Provide technician direction and actively participate with cryogenic rocket engine test systems setups, process verifications, instrumentation and pre-run data systems calibrations, post-test data processing, and data validity reviews. Individual will work closely with multiple engineering organizations to accommodate customer requirements and expectations.

    Requirements

    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering degree and at least 2 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Candidate must be proficient with PC based digital data acquisition systems – including LabVIEW programming and operating systems, A/D front end hardware, and various types of instrumentation used for high speed data recording applications

     

    Qualified candidates must be knowledgeable of engineering principles and should have experience with an emphasis on the following:

    • Hands-on development, integration, operation and troubleshooting of instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition systems;
    • Sensor circuits including but not limited to pressure, temperature, flow, vibration, and force measurement;
    • Principles of electrical circuits including: mixed-signal processing, filters, ADCs, power supplies, noise, and conditioning amplifiers;
    • Thrust Measurement Systems;
    • Mass and volumetric flow measurements;
    • Instrumentation calibrations.

    * Familiarity with the application of strain gages, bonding lead wires, hypo tubing and metal clad thermocouples would be considered a plus.

     

    US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

     

    Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Working conditions vary from working in an environmentally controlled clean room (Assembly area) to working outside on a test stand. The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
