Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer for our Camden, Arkansas facility.
The successful candidate is responsible for implementing the Company’s safety, health & environmental (SH&E) programs to ensure safety and compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations, as well as requirements of the Department of Defense. The candidate will monitor and control the Camden site’s SH&E standards; investigate accidents, analyze causes and recommend changes in procedures, practices, and methods to prevent recurrences; participate in reviews to ensure SH&E criteria are met; conduct trainings to ensure employee sensitivity to safe working conditions, practices, and proper use of safety equipment; act as liaison with regulatory agencies; review and approve operating procedures, facility and equipment design, which may include investigation of working conditions and technical procedures for the purpose of identifying potential health and safety hazards; conduct periodic and special audits and inspections of equipment, sites, facilities and operations to identify safety and health hazards and perform job safety analyses; collect and analyzes data, and prepares reports, graphs, and charts in support of defined SH&E assignments; recognize, evaluate, and recommend measures for control of chemical, safety, and physical hazards present at work sites; recommend SH&E standards for the handling, storage and transportation of hazardous materials, including hazardous waste; and prepare reports or documentation pursuant to company and regulatory requirements.
Position reports to the Camden Director of SH&E and must be able to work in a team environment.
35% - Reviews, analyzes and evaluates facilities, methods, practices and procedures for compliance with safety standards.
35% - Performs inspections and surveys to identify occupational hazards and recommends corrective action.
10% - Investigates accidents and makes recommendations to prevent recurrence.
10% - Conducts required safety training programs.
10% - Represents safety department in interactions with internal and external customers and regulatory agencies as directed.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and five (5) years of experience in a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment requires a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (e.g., ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds, including ability to work in field on uneven terrain in extreme environments (e.g., including heat (>100 degrees F), cold (<32 degrees F), humidity, rain, etc.), as much as 25% of job. Requires ability to respond to emergency events, in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (HAZWOPER) and in accordance with AR site Emergency Response Plan(s). Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) and drive company vehicles in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc., requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Position may require respirator clearance up to and including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and donning of Level A PPE suits. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Candidate will be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations and may be required to travel by air. Work duties also include ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization. Camden is a Monday thru Thursday (4/10) work shift.
