We have an entry level Associate Engineer – SRM Aerothermal Analyst position available at our Huntsville AL Defense Headquarters.
This position is for a starting position in the Aero Thermal Fluids (ATF) department in the Analysis directorate. The essential job function is analysis of Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs) in the fields of thermal analysis, computational fluid dynamics, combustion devices analysis and solid propellant, including testing of these devices and components. The analysis will be performed utilizing legacy tools and commercial codes. Support programs with both military and commercial applications, from small motors to large booster motors. This job function is a core competency for the enterprise and requires relevant course work and/or internship experience.
(60%) Working under general supervision, provide technical support for the Aero Thermal Fluids groups in the Analysis function of Engineering. The analysis will typically support programs for small thrusters as well as large booster / upper stage rocket engines, both of which are core competencies of Aerojet Rocketdyne. Works in a team setting with junior as well as senior staff. Develops approaches for problems and works with supervision to successfully solve technical tasks and problems. Communicates frequently with peers and management to ensure clear understanding of the task assigned and the deliverables, along with an understanding and appreciation for the schedule.
(20%) Working under general supervision, support development testing of combustion devices components and systems at various test sites across the country. Actively participate in test planning, instrumentation layouts, and developing appropriate facility procedures. Carry out pre-test predictions, “quick look” analysis of test data at the test sites, and post-test data analysis to help with the design and development of the devices. Also, gain experience and skills in assessing hot-fired hardware. Work across programs to ensure consistent application of best practices in performing job responsibilities.
(20%) Support goals of program IPTs (integrated product teams) by balancing work-loads and priorities. Understand standard work for SRM related analysis and test processes. Ensure good documentation for all major tasks and activities.
Requires Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Chemical engineering. Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) preferred (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must have excellent communication skills, and demonstrate leadership skills. People skills for smooth integration into a team-based work environment.
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least one internship in a relevant area. Relevant coursework and design project experience during undergraduate studies. Familiarity with analytical tools such as academic versions of CFD codes (Fluent, Ansys Workbench, Loci-Chem etc.), design tools, . Advanced degree strongly preferred. Demonstrated leadership traits and skills highly desirable.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. citizenship required).
Desired: Proficiency in Excel, MATLAB, and commercial CFD and thermal codes.
