    We are seeking an enterprise wide Community Relations lead located in our Huntsville, Alabama office. Ideal candidate has extensive community relations, corporate communications, and public relations experience and the ability to serve as the enterprise lead for the Aerojet Rocketdyne Community relations program.

     

    As the enterprise community relations lead, candidate will analyze, plan, and implement corporate strategies that advance Aerojet Rocketdyne's Community Relations goals. Additionally serve as the site’s community relations representative in Huntsville. Use internal and external communications channels to communicate employee initiatives and community relations activities.

     

    Experience and proven success in business, community and economic development activities are important to support the company’s expanded enterprise-wide community relations effort.  

     

    In this role, the candidate will work closely with Aerojet Rocketdyne’s leadership and serve as the strategic lead for the enterprise-wide integrated community relations program, as well as be responsible for overall program implementation and execution. In addition, the candidate will provide Huntsville-specific community relations support. The candidate will also serve as an extension of Aerojet Rocketdyne’s Communications, Community Relations and Government Relations organizations, providing general support on specifically assigned matters for the company as a whole. Strong writing abilities and knowledge of AP Style a must.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    Working with minimal direction:

     

    75% - Develops and executes metrics-driven Community Relations programs aligned with company goals, making recommendations to ensure that projects appropriately reflect Aerojet Rocketdyne's strategic direction and branding.

     

    Interacts with management, Communications, Community Relations and Government Relations site representatives across the enterprise to provide strategic counsel and develop communications, community relations and government relations deliverables.

     

    Duties also include supporting media relations, community relations, government relations, STEM activities and special events/VIP tours.  

     

    25% - Performs communications functions in support of the Aerojet Rocketdyne Defense business unit including supporting social media presence, crisis communications, public speaking opportunities, corporate responsibility efforts, tradeshow support, speech writing, web content development, special projects and other communications related activities.  Additional duties as assigned, including assisting in various other projects within the Washington Operations & Communications department.

    Requirements

    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Government/Political Science or related discipline and ten (10) years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

     

    Additional Requirements:

    • Demonstrated ability to work well with others; have a keen attention to detail, and communicate effectively. Interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively interface with all levels of personnel, at our Huntsville site; within the Washington Operations & Communications Department; and throughout the company.
    • Skilled in effective scheduling and prioritizing work flow. 
    • Ability to analyze data of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
    • Must be flexible enough to fill in where required on demand.
    • Ability to drive and possess a valid driver's license and meet automobile insurability requirements of the company.
    • Some travel may be required.
    • Knowledge of AP Style.
    • Outstanding ability to write, with precise knowledge of English grammar and composition.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Background in public relations, community relations, and/or government relations.
    • Excellent public speaker and communicator.
    • Experienced in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

     

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
