    Aerojet Rocketdyne is looking to add a Health & Safety Technician to our staff at our Camden, Arkansas facility.  Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader providing propulsion and energetics to its space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile and armaments customers throughout domestic and international markets. We offer a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion.


    • In this role, you will provide technical support to the occupational safety, health and environmental (SH&E) programs of the Company.
    • Assist in implementing and monitoring programs to ensure personnel and facility safety and health.
    • Participate with senior staff in monitoring and controlling health and safety standards in accordance with codes and regulations.
    • Participate in evaluating new equipment and materials; assist in monitoring employee exposure to chemicals and other toxic substances.
    • Assist in performing surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with the organization’s policies, procedures, regulations and standards.
    • Report non-compliance or hazardous conditions found and suggest remedial action to be taken.
    • May maintain storage areas, consumable supply inventories and personnel protection equipment.
    • Respond along with more senior staff members to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, radiation, or other similar incidents.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    20 %  Promotes industrial health and safety activities by minimizing exposures to hazards through observation and evaluation of work activities and conditions


    20%  Coordinates and participates in various health and safety programs such as Confined Space Entry, Ergonomics, Personal Protective Equipment, Environmental Monitoring, Emergency Response and other similar health and safety programs 


    10%  Coordinates waste processing packaging and shipment


    10%  Coordinates and participates in the implementation of investigation activities related to air quality levels and similar activities in health and safety 


    10%  Performs various environmental monitoring activities related to air and water pollution


    5%   Coordinates and participates in health and safety related trainings


    5%   Assists in performing hazard analysis of equipment and processes 


    5%   Assists in emergency response activities


    5%   Performs various decontamination procedures and other related duties which may be assigned


    5%   Provide training and guidance to less senior technicians and support staff


    5%   Act as a lead in coordinating and implementing various health and safety activities



    High school diploma or equivalent preferred and seven (7) years of related experience in industrial work environment. Associate degree preferred. Work experience in energetics, propellants, explosives preferred.  HAZWOPER, HAZMAT, HAZCOM, First Aid/CPR, OSHA General Industry, First Responder certifications preferred..


    The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.  Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) and drive company vehicles in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations.  Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary.  This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
