    Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer to join our Canoga Park, CA facility (Los Angeles area).


    The Industrial Engineer is responsible for characterizing optimum factory/business operations. The position defines solutions and develops ways to increase productivity, maximize efficiency, and manage human capital effectively. Primary responsibilities include studies and methods for improvement of manufacturing throughput, scheduling & performance accuracy, and business process development. 


    The Senior Industrial Engineer performs a variety of assignments of diverse scope and complexity, works under limited general direction, and exercises considerable latitude in determining methods and approaches. The Senior Industrial Engineer functions as the prime contact for assigned initiatives and interacts with individual contributors as well as Director or Senior Director-levels of leadership. The position may provide guidance to more junior team members.

    Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

    45% - Optimize Manufacturing Throughput

    • Layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.
    • Develop manufacturing methods and labor utilization to promote efficient staff, facility utilization, and scheduling activities.
    • Study operations sequence, material flow, and manufacturing waste to increase throughput.

    45% - Improve Scheduling & Performance Accuracy

    • View system as a whole. Assess manufacturing sequences, lead-times, shop floor capacity planning, and area performance to optimize workflow schedules.
    • Use rough-cut capacity planning models, area layout, and SIOP process to support program onboarding or offloading activities.
    • Identify system level production constraints.

    10% - Business Process Development

    • Assist in development & continuous improvement of Site/Enterprise-wide Industrial Engineering and related process standard work.
    • Create standard lead-time and target review processes in alignment to MMAS and best practice.
    • Standardized manufacturing performance reporting with ability to reconcile with program plan.


    Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and (5) years of experience in a directly related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


    US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


    Knowledge of:

    • Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAD / CAM) methods and techniques.
    • Work measurement studies (manufacturing standard work) and basic statistical techniques.
    • Performance measurement systems.
    • Material handling, inventory control, and production planning.
    • Lean Manufacturing principles and application.

    Ability to:

    • Interpret and evaluate data and processes.
    • Communicate technical information to a wide audience both verbally and in writing.
    • Use various computer systems to produce reports and spreadsheets.
    • Operate effectively within a team environment.
    • Establish working priorities, plan projects, and organize resources.



    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 pounds.


    While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
