Aerojet Rocketdyne, a major aerospace corporation responsible for the design, manufacture and operation of a number of critical U.S. space and defense products, seeks a Manager for a full-time position in the Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE) discipline in West Palm Beach, Florida.


This position is responsible for leading and managing the technical engineering staff that select, evaluate, and provide design requirements for materials and production processes used in rocket engine and air-breathing hypersonic propulsion system applications. This position requires knowledge and experience with space and hypersonic propulsion environments and applicable materials and process technologies.


This position may be filled at the Manager or Senior Manager level.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Material & Processes at Aerojet Rocketdyne.


70% - This leader will plan, administer, and manage the activities, programs, and staff of Materials and Processes Engineering at the West Palm Beach site. They are primarily responsible for management of engineering activities to select materials and processes to achieve the design, analysis, development, and production of hardware for propulsion systems used in space launch and exploration mission applications and for air breathing hypersonic propulsion programs. They are also responsible for management of the West Palm Beach MPE lab facility and operations within the lab. The leader will also engage with MPE management counterparts at other Aerojet Rocketdyne sites to provide cross-site support as may be needed for efforts going on outside of West Palm Beach. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring that we keep abreast of the latest developments in Materials and Processes Engineering practices and innovations applicable to West Palm Beach product areas. The position is also responsible for ensuring preservation of the Company’s MPE related intellectual property through documentation of current design and processes as well as innovative ideas.


20% - Perform functional management responsibilities, including program staffing and performance, employee skill and career development, employee motivation, performance evaluation, salary planning, work prioritization and technical oversight of employee work product. Accountable for technical engineering management of projects and/or proposals in the areas of development, design, analysis, and production in accordance with company goals, policies, and schedules. Responsible for the department financial performance and mitigation to ensure department reporting metrics are in-line with established goals and plans.


10% - Provide short and long-range planning for engineering operations and implement approved plans; plan and direct the development and implementation of department systems, methods, standards, practices, and procedures; act as liaison between engineering staff and other organizations, and assure that activities within defined scope are accomplished in accordance with company policies, sound business practices and are in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements.



Requires a Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or similar discipline plus 9 (nine) or more years of progressive experience. Master’s degree strongly desired. Strong technical and team-working skills required. Previous lead engineer or management experience is a plus. Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential.


U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
