We are seeking an Associate Engineer, Materials and Processes for our Huntsville, AL manufacturing facility.  This is an entry level position for a recent college graduate.


This position will work in the Advanced Manufacturing Facility Engineering Lab and will be responsible for providing materials and process related testing support to product teams, processing development support, failure analysis and manufacturing process development support, as well as interface with suppliers and customers to resolve technical problems related to materials testing.  The candidate will be trained to perform mechanical testing on various materials and will be trained to conduct analytical chemistry tests.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

75% Directly supporting receiving inspection and recertification of materials through various laboratory tests, including the following: thermal analysis testing – DSC, TGA, TMA; gas chromatography mass spectrometry; quantitative FTIR analysis, wet chemistry techniques – qualitative and quantitative.

10% Works with Receiving Inspection Coordinator and Program Material Planners for test planning and coordination.

15% Engineering support to various teams in the organization. This support may include mounting and polishing samples for observation under a stereomicroscope or scanning electron microscope.



Recent college graduate with a B.S. degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent Chemistry/Physical Science.

Additional Requirements:

1. A GPA of 3.2 plus is required.
2. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate in a team environment.
3. Familiarity with ASTM test procedures is desirable.



U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:


In addition, employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
