Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Specialist Chief Engineer to join our Huntsville, Al Facility. As part of our Controllable Solids Defense team, you will lead, plan and execute this development program’s engineering efforts. Serve as an engineering lead role to coordinate design, analysis, systems engineering, avionics, and component project engineering for a Controllable Solids Defense development program.


This position can be hired at one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

50%- Determines technical objectives and approaches: plan, conduct and technically direct the engineering production/development efforts. Leading and directing failure/anomaly investigations in support of development and test efforts. Provide coordination across the functional areas and with program management. Be responsible for the development effort under the general direction of the Program Manager(s). Responsibilities include planning the engineering activity and then providing the technical direction to ensure the technical success of the program. Working supplier issues and traveling to suppliers as needed. Traveling to the customer location as required.

30%- Represent Engineering planning and progress to the customer, including informal communications and the preparation of formal presentations and reports. Prepare program plans. Prepare/edit proposals, reports and presentations documenting status, issues and results. Work closely with the development team and others to assure successful completion of project milestones. Ensuring SDRLs are completed on time.

10% - Generate affordability strategy, documentation, procedures, specifications and plans. Influence design, development, integration, and testing of components and systems for aerospace applications.

10%- Perform other assignments as required.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 9 years of experience on solid propulsion projects, including team lead experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Advanced degree preferred. CAD knowledge desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software required.

US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
