Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Quality Assurance Manager for the Aerojet Rocketdyne Los Angeles site. This position is responsible for directing the daily activities related to execution of the Precision Measurement Room and Process Inspection work centers. This supervisory position is responsible for department budget, and performance of all 1st shift personnel in supporting all current and future program needs, accomplishing results through leadership of non-exempt and exempt employees. This position monitors work operations on a daily basis and actively assists or provides direction to direct reports as required to ensure product quality while supporting production schedules.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

This position supervises the day to day activities in the Aerojet Rocketdyne Los Angeles site Machining, Chemical and Heat process Inspection teams on 1st shift. The Precision Measurement Room (PMR) employs a variety of machines, equipment and hand tools to verify product and tooling dimensions to aerospace tolerances, including the use of coordinate measuring machines, structured light, lasers, optical comparators, molds, borescopes, profilometers, etc.   The PMR team also assists in defining product tooling dimensional and inspection requirements.  Process Inspectors verify product cleanliness and clean room environments meet production requirements.

 

50% - Developing staff and leading execution of daily work assignments to meet quality, cost, and schedule commitments. Provide guidance and assistance to subordinates in meeting schedules.

 

20% - Ensuring work center readiness, efficiency and compliance (Total Productive Maintenance, equipment and tool calibration, effective implementation of Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Operating System Tools, maintaining Bargaining Unit overtime records, Delmia MES, daily checks,).

 

10% - Coordinate between manufacturing work centers and across shifts to ensure hardware velocity without escapes and minimizing “waste”.

 

10% - Responsible for assigned department budget performance and reporting.

 

10% - Accountable for personnel performance evaluations in accordance with company policies and procedures. 

 

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline and at least seven (7) years of related experience in Quality/Manufacturing/ (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

 

Successful candidates will have direct experience in Aerospace Quality or Manufacturing leadership roles. Preferred candidates will also have experience in reading and interpreting drawings and engineering specifications and have a very good understanding of Quality processes. The ability to adapt in a dynamically changing environment is also a necessary skill for this position. Experience working in a bargaining unit environment is also desired.

 

US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

  • Strong leadership, problem solving and written/verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must have the ability to analyze, evaluate and develop solutions to a variety of situations (technical, organizational, etc.).
  • Experience with MS Office products is required.
  • Candidates should possess the skills to coach/mentor individuals to work effectively under time and budget constraints.
  • Must consistently meet commitments.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire change.

 

 

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

 

The work environment may also require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat or hearing protection. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization. Depending on the location of the position, visual certification requirement may apply. The position requires the ability to travel by air or auto.
