Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Radiographic Level I NDT Technician to join our growing team near Culpeper in beautiful, rural Orange County, Virginia. Position expected to work second shift (approximately 2:30 PM - midnight). 

 

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher for candidates with higher level certifications/relevant NDT experience.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under general supervision, the Radiographic Level I NDT Technician performs standard NDT assignments requiring general use and application of concepts, practices and techniques.

  • 45% - Interpret both film and digital based radiographic images to determine location of subsurface and surface defects, such as inclusions, cracks, porosity, voids, unbonds, etc. Effectively communicate findings and relay information accurately through proper reporting processes and inspection reports.
  • 15% - Perform inspection operations in accordance with Quality Control Standards, written specifications, or verbal instructions. Participate as required in product/process auditing through hardware/data verification and Statistical Process Control (SPC) verification activities.
  • 10% - Use complex Software programs (efX-CT, efX-DR, imageJ®, VG StudioMax®) to evaluate digital images and CT data files.
  • 10% - Set up and operate conventional (RT) and Digital Radiographic (DR) inspection equipment, including Computed Tomography (CT), to inspect parts, materials, and assemblies to determine the existence and extent of discontinuities.
  • 10% - Complete all related documentation.
  • 10% - Maintain NDT Equipment.

Requirements

Requirements:  

  • Certification in NDT as a Radiographic Level I technician (RT) required.  The selected individual should include Testing Records and related Documented OJT records, all from NAS-410 certified Trainers and on NAS-410 as a part of resume document.
  • High School (or equivalent) plus one (1) year of related experience.  Years of experience may be reduced by completion of at least a 2-year degree in Engineering or relevant field at an accredited institution of higher learning.  
  • A thorough knowledge of theory, methods and procedures for qualifying disciplines is required.

Strongly Desired:

  • Additional certifications and/or experience Digital Radiography (DR), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), or Ultrasonics (UT) 
  • Experience in either the aerospace or defense industry 

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.  Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.   May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
