We are seeking a Senior Engineer at our West Palm Beach, FL location. 

 

This is an excellent opportunity to join our engineering staff in our Space Business Unit and be engaged in the design and analysis of aerospace propulsion systems at the component and the system level. This position performs a variety of mechanical design engineering tasks on fast-paced liquid-fueled rocket engine development and production programs.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Working under general supervision, the candidate will perform mechanical design engineering assignments requiring application of advanced principles, theories and concepts to develop or modify hardware designs for launch vehicle propulsion systems.

 

50% - Perform design tasks that contribute to the development of components and systems for turbomachinery, injectors, combustion chambers, nozzles, inlets, valves, ancillary hardware, and support equipment. Develop engineering models and drawing requirements to align with manufacturing processes and functional and operational requirements. Evaluate technical input from hardware suppliers and work with a cross functional team on producibility improvements and cost savings. Perform trade studies and design evaluations using analysis tools and CAD models. Support production hardware non-conformance analysis, anomalies, and failure investigations. 

 

20% - Perform or coordinate thermal and structural analysis for predicting component and system level performance in the design of the products. Interact with manufacturing to assure hardware is producible.

 

20% - Prepare or check engineering drawings with associated geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.  Actively integrate with supporting engineering disciplines and participate in team meetings to develop new or modified engineering designs. Prepare CAD files for team approval and monitors design release.

 

10% - Prepare review presentations for internal and external customers. Prepare engineering reports and supporting documents for the documentation of design intent, tolerance studies, engineering analyses, or failure investigations, including technical close-out reports.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and five (5) years of experience in a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Requirements/Preferred Qualifications:

  • General understanding of aerospace materials and manufacturing processes (welding, brazing, machining, heat treating) is necessary.
  • Strong mechanical engineering background with knowledge and understanding of structural sizing, heat transfer, and fluid flow principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Working knowledge of CREO CAD modeling and Windchill PLM is desired.
  • Experience in the design and development of mechanical systems and a working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 is required.
  • Experience with aerospace valves, injectors, combustion chambers, nozzles, high speed inlets, or gas turbines is beneficial.
  • General component and system level knowledge of rocket propulsion hardware is desirable.
  • Prior experience with propulsion system integration with flight vehicles and test facilities is beneficial.
  • An advanced degree or coursework toward an advanced degree in a related discipline is a plus.
  • Experience in technical writing for engineering reports and presentations are a plus.

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
