We are seeking a Structures and Dynamics Engineer for our Canoga Park (Los Angeles, CA) location. In this role you will perform structural analysis to verify product designs meet structural performance requirements.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

70% - Perform structural modeling of rocket motor hardware components:

  • Conduct closed form and finite element analyses on metallic and composite hardware to determine margins of safety to ensure designs meet customer requirements. Analyze joints and other components for pressure and thermal gradient boundary conditions. Materials will be a combination of isotropic, viscoelastic and composite. Thermal gradients and pressure distributions, as well as specified mechanical loads for these models are self-derived and provided by other analysis team members.
  • Use solid CAD models provided by other team members, to generate FEA models in ANSYS, ABAQUS, and other FEA tools.
  • Perform static and dynamic structural analyses and assess operating margins.
  • Generate and provide analysis reports and presentation materials to analysis team and internal and external customers documenting analysis. methodologies, assumptions, and findings.

10% - Report status and results of analysis tasks at design and program reviews.

 

20% - Prepare technical briefings and reports documenting all analysis activities.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of directly related experience.

 

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree strongly desired.
  • Experience using finite element analysis tools such as ANSYS expected.
  • Experience with ANSYS Mechanical APDL programming desired.
  • Knowledge and experience with aerospace product development efforts a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is expected.
  • The ability to coordinate with other team members for loads and an understanding of customer specified aerospace structural requirements is required.
  • An ability to analyze static & dynamic loads, material nonlinearities and structural instabilities is required.
  • Experience with analysis, design, manufacturing and test of filament-wound composite case pressure vessels for solid rocket motors is strongly desired.

Will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.  Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

 

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto.  May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:

69,500 - 102,166 per year
